12": Brainbug - Nightmare[12AD007]
Released '96 on Additive Records. Written by A. Bertapelle. As one of the first releases on Additive, "Nightmare" needs no introduction, since the Sinister Strings Mix climbed pretty high in the charts back in '96. For the sake of those who missed it (?), pounding beats and a full orchestra of strings dictate the dark mood of this atmospheric pounding trancer. On the flip the lesser known, longer Sinergetic Mix is not as predictable as its counter-part and makes for a more interesting play.

12": Kayashi - Furyo[12AD019]
Released '97 on Additive Records. Written and produced by Barry Fraser and Jason Famous. The sample that this track is written around is the well known Japanese sounding track "Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence" by Ryuichi Sakamoto (you'll know it when you hear it!). A little on the cheesey side, but it works well. The Original Mix starts with good intentions but unfortunately falls a little on the messy side midway through the track. The average Burger Queen Remix tilts the production towards Handbag, whilst the gem on this 12" is found on the flip where Colin Tunnel drives this track home with the lengthy, storming, progressive house Tevendales Tunnel Mix. The style of this remix work is in similar vain to Tenth Chapter's "Wired" (Stonk Remix) on Jackpot Records (if you don't know it, just take my word thats its a superb prog houser). This just leaves Louise Cyphers Fading Fury Mix, which is a beatless, ambient "gone to bed" mix. Don't miss if just for the Tevendales Tunnel Mix.

12": Lange - The Root of Unhappiness / Obsession[12AD020]
Released '98 on Additive Records. Written and produced by Lange. 'The Root of Unhappiness' is a driving hard trancer that aptly combines uplifting pianoy breakdowns more associated with the wave of melodic Euro-trance currently flowing from Holland, Belgium and Germany. On the flip 'Obsession' is hard-house/hard-trance hybrid (also featuring a rather dodgy "orgasm" sample). Its mid-track that this track steps up a gear and takes on some form of originality, making good use of a powerful melody played out by a full orchestra.

12": Ayla / Ayla Remix[12AD023 / 12AD028]
Released in '98 on Additive Records in the UK. The Original DJ Taucher Mix fades into insignificance when compared to the stunning Mo and Skinny Hole in One Mix that grabbed my attention; after an ambient intro this breaks into a medium paced uplifting trancer. On the remix 12" the Space Brothers Meet Sacha Collission Remix is equally as good, although this falls more into the realms of progressive house. Quality tunes from Ayla. Aparently Kosmonova also did a remix of this track in 1997, which was pretty big in clubland in Germany.

12": Sosa - Wave[12AD024]
Released '98 on Additive Records. Written and produced by G. Bortolotti, M. Picotto and A. Remondini. Tauchers serves up a slow to start, big to build dark, long powerful trancer backed by haunting choirs, sporadically interrupted by a very deep voiced sample of "The Wave is Coming". The Lange Remix falls more into progressive house territory which isn't as dark as Tauchers storming remix, and as a result loses some of the drive. However, its not to be overlooked as this is a more hands-in-the-air remix that will serve equally well on the dancefloor. Falling in-between the two other mixes is the shorter Megamind Remix, which is again excellent. Three storming mixes of a great track - another not to be missed.

CDS: Sosa - Wave[665320 2]
Released 1997 on Sony Music. The tracklisting on the CD itself shows track 3 as 5:30. The CD
insert has the correct time of 6:04. Thanks to Brian Harris for this information.

12": Red Light District - Did You Hear Me?[12AD025]
Released '98 on Additive Records. Written and produced by DJ Taucher and Torsten Stenzel. Dark edged trance/hard house that's not quite in the style usually related to Germany's Taucher and Stenzel. Mediocre.
| |||
12": Chris Raven - I Know You Love Me Too![12AD027]
Released '98 on Additive Records. Written by Dr. Logatec, Tomisiav Pehar and Bart Van Der Zwaan. Produced by Norris, Pehar, Van Der Zwaan and Chris Raven. Bruce Norris drags out a slow progressive house remix that wanders dangerously near the boring and unoriginal camp. Van Bellen also fails to deliver anything worthy of a mention, with a darker, harder-edge progressive trancer. Very average and uninspiring.

12": Iron Eden - The Gate[12AD030]
Released '98 on Additive Records. Written by Aaoron Kassar. Produced by Aaoron Kassar and Maik Schevermann. This is a superb driving hard-edged trancer from Iron Eden with an unusual slightly distorted screeching melody. Claudio Giussani , aka Terra Ferma, provides a storming remix that's slightly more upbeat.
| |||
12": Silent Breed - Sync In[12AD031]
Released '98 on Additive Records. Written and produced by Thomas P. Heckmann. This is a peculiar trancer that's borders on annoying with a highly repetitive squeaky melody. All three mixes stick to the same theme (i.e. annoying!), where the Alphabet Team Remix is the more uplifting and the DJ Tomcraft Remix is the harder and faster of the three. Probably work well at three in the morning.
| |||
12": Kay Cee - Love Stimulation[12AD034]
Released '98 on Additive Records. Tracks 1 & 2 written by O. Huntermann, G. Frerichs, H. G. Schmidt. Track 3 written by P. Namlock, S. Bodzin, K. Lacour. Released to coincide with the re-release of the Deviant Records Paul van Dyk remix of 'Love Stimulation'. Both mixes of the title track are amicable trance numbers, although they fade against the superior Deviant remixes. Likewise, 'Escape' is pretty average.

12": Ralph Fridge - Paradise / Promise Me Heaven[12AD036]
Released 4/99 on Additive Records. Written and produced by Ralph Fritsch and Detlef Hastik. Another quality trance/prog house crossover from the UK based Additive label. The best of the three has got to be the Nu Gray Mix which combines a euphoric operatic style backing vocal to a moderate paced trancer, whereas the Push (of 'Universal Nation' fame) remix is much darker with a slightly harder edge. 'Promise Me Heaven' is more akin to the Nu Gray Mix of 'Paradise', although it has a lighter bouncier air to it. An excellent 12". Click here for more on Fridge.

12" : Taucher - Child of the Universe (Sanvean)[12AD037 / 12AD038]
Released 5/99 on Additive Records. Written and produced by Ralph Armand Beck and Torsten Stenzel. DJ Taucher serves up another superb trancer with two remixes of 'Child of the Universe'. Use of operatic style vocals (pinched from Dead Can Dances's 'Sanvean') gives a full on powerful effect and anthem potential. I'm not overly keen on 'Bizarre', which lives up to its name, although the harder trancer 'Flüssig' is worth a listen. Originally released in Germany - more info here.

12": Lange - I Belive[12AD039]
Released 6/99 on Additive Records. Written by Lange and Sarah Dwyer with vocals by Sarah Dwyer. Produced by Lange. The Lange Mix starts off on a real strong foot, giving the impression that what is about to follow will be an awesome trancer - however, as the track breaks in flows an awful female vocal that almost sounds like Madonna. And I mean awful! However, on the flip DJ Tandu almost manages to rescue this track by stripping away this vocal to the bear minimum. Shame really - this could have been a really big track.

12": HH Presents I.C.E. EP[12AD041]
Released 6/99 on Additive Records. Written and produced by Hardy Heller and Ray Boye. Remix and additional production on track 1 by Stuart Crichton and Colin Tavendale. Originally released on Planetary Consciousness. Where the original mixes that featured on Planetary Consciousness were quite deep, the Gigolo remix cranks the tempo up and goes straight for the jugular. This is a superb remix - pounding trance mixed with Indian war cries and a racing uplifting melody. Essential.

12": Fragma - Toca Me[12AD043]
Released 8/99 on Additive Records. Written and produced by Ramon Zenker, Dirk Duderstadt and Marco Duderstadt. Following a successful promotion earlier this year (on Gang Go Music / Orbit Records GmBH) and a lot of airplay by big name jocks this storming track gets a full release in the UK on Additive. Ramon Zencker, one half of the legendary German duo Hardfloor, returns with his new project 'Fragma' with brothers Dirk and Marco Duderstadt. The In Petto RMX has a slight industrial feel to the track, where the closest comparison I can make is to the climax of the Original 3 'n 1 remix of Energy 52's 'Cafe del Mar'. The mid-track breakdown features delicious Spanish guitar licks before hurtling off towards a huge finale. The Club Mix is more mainstream, dropping the industrial sound in preference for a more commercial sound. This is one banging instrumental trancer!

12": Der Dritte Raum - Hale Bopp[12AD042]
Released 8/99 on Additive Records. Written and produced by Andreas Kruger.
| |||
12": BBE - Seven Days and One Week[12AD044]
Released 9/99 on Additive Records. Written by Bruno Sanchioni and Bruno Quartier. Produced by Emmanual Top. Two new remixes of this Balearic classic that originally graced the dancefloors back in '96. The Kai Tracid Remix sticks to the original uplifting theme and succeeds to some degree in breathing some new life into the old classic. However, the lengthy DJ Moguai Remix by DJ Moguai and Phil Fuldner is an attempt at a more varied/diverse remix. Guaranteed the former will be getting all the airplay.
| |||
12": Force Majeure - Redemption[12AD045]
Released 10/99 on Additive Records. Written by R. Simmonds and S. Jones. Produced by Stephan Jones. The original mix of this track suffers from an awful synthline that sounds as it was written on a kiddies Casio keyboard. However, on the flipside the Thrillseekers (S. Helstrip) revamp the whole track and turn this into a monster trancer. Quality.
| |||
12": Aurora - Hear You Calling[12AD046]
Released 12/99 on Additive Records. Written and produced by Sacha Collision and Simon Greenaway. Additional remix and production on track 1 by Origin and on track 2 by Blue Room. This is a quality slice of vocal progressive house from Sacha Collision.
| |||
12": DJ Taucher - EP2[12AD050/12AD051]
Released 6/00 on Additive Records. Written and produced by Ralph Armand Beck and Torsten Stenzel. This is a great release from Taucher. Scince Fiction, which is also a 9 track CD single featuring many remixes including Mario Piu, ATB and Cosmic Gate, is a deep and dark trancer. The Clubmix 2000 version takes a while to get going with a lengthy intro, but once the beats cut in this track does some serious damage. The midtrack section also features a fantastic male spoken lyric, defining the real meaning of Science Fiction, which will probably freak a few people out on the dance floor, but its the kind of track i'd play for a laugh. The DJ Jaimy & Kenny D Remix drop the vocal and the lengthy intro and just stick to the deep and dark beats. Winter Love is a potential big summer anthem, and not as cold and frosty as its title suggests. Uplifting piano melodies float over what is essentially quite a deep trance bassline - both the Original Mix and Funk Function Remix hit the mark.

12": Condor - You Can (Kiss My...)[12AD 057 / 12AD058]
Released 8/00 on Additive Records as 2x12". Written and produced by Stephen Bodzin. Licensed from Alphabet City GmbH. This is a great trancer with beautiful deep piano chords. The original mix is quite progressive with acid tweaks and bleeps, whilst the Light of Day Remix is more main stream and accessible. Not to be missed. I've not got the 1st 12" yet featuring the Graeme L & Adam Dived remixes - more on these as and when I get hold of it.
| |||
CDR: Condor - You Can (Kiss My...)[TBA]
Promo released 2000 on Additive. Written and produced by
Stephen Bodzin. The Adam Dived Remix is excellent also. Thanks to Brian Harris for this information.

12": Velvet Girl - Velvet / Walking in Sunshine[12AD059 / 12AD060]
Released 8/00 on Additive Records as 2x12". Written and produced by L-Vee. Licensed from Bonzai UK. This is minimal progressive house that ambles along in a leisurly manner - if not curb crawling on a Sunday afternoon. Cass & Slide go dark and deep, whilst Philip Van Mullem takes a right turn and saunters around the block a few times.
